Hello to all of Carrington’s residents, family members and staff, my name is Tony Bright. During the month of April I moved from the country to take up the position of Lifestyle Manager. I bring with me 6 years experience as a Diversional Therapist working in Aged Care, Disabilities and Youth Programs. Over the next few weeks I will be spending time at all of Carrington’s facilities to meet with my team of Coordinators and Lifestyle assistants to discuss our programs. Please introduce yourself if you see me about!

THE ROLE OF PHYSIOTHERAPY AT CARRINGTON

The physiotherapy is outsourced to a company called VIVIR who specialises in delivering services such as podiatry, speech therapy, physiotherapy and diet. Following is what the physiotherapist performs at each Carrington site.

Assess, plan, develop and implement individual programs for each resident. Specifying the support needs of the resident to the carer and nurse who will deliver the program. Liaise with care staff and nurses to ensure correct implementation of care plans. Review all residents at a minimum interval of three months. Identify residents needs for mobility aids and other specialised equipment. Assess residents after change in mobility status, for example after a fall.

CHANGE OF DETAILS

If you have changed your contact details please inform the receptionist or nurse in charge. It is important to maintain current details in order to call in case of an emergency.

PRIVATE FUNCTIONS

If you require to hold a private function at a Carrington facility please speak with the Lifestyle Coordinator. Penelope at Hilltop, Cathie at the Mews and Tracey at the Gables. It is the responsibility of the family to set up for the function and ensure the room is cleaned afterwards. Catering and staffing can be provided at an extra cost.

Norovirus is the main cause of gastro in Australia and occurs during Winter through to early Summer. Symptoms of norovirus include acute onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, which lasts for 24 – 48 hours. Norovirus outbreaks in aged care homes are common and difficult to control. Viral gastroenteritis is highly infectious and requires ingestion of a few viral particles only.

To prevent gastro thorough hand washing is the most important preventative measure. All residents, staff and visitors should wash their hands on a regular basis to prevent spreading the infection. If you have any of the above symptoms please do not enter a Carrington Aged Care facility until 48 hours after the symptoms have gone.

FLU SEASON

It is extremely important to all family and friends to not visit our facilities if they have any flu like symptoms which includes sore throat, running nose, chest infection and aches and pains. Personal hygiene is important to stop spreading the virus which includes regular hand washing with soap and placing hand over mouth when coughing.

NEW RESIDENTS

To all new residents and their families recently admitted to a Carrington Aged Care facility, please advise the Facility Manager if you have had a flu vaccination for this season.

ELECTRICAL TAGGING

It is extremely important that any electrical items brought into the facility are checked by our maintenance department. Any electrical equipment will need to be tagged for safety, this cost will be charged to the account.

RECEPTION

If you are taking a resident out it is important that you advise the Registered Nurse in charge and sign the “outings” book located at reception.
